Kurt's Industrial Section
and the town of "Addon"

Kurt didn't like running trains in circles at the shows, so he based his modules on a switching trackplan he had seen in a magazine. He made a few modifications to fit what he wanted. The extensive track has become a puzzle to challenge friends at the shows as well as doubling as a staging yard for the smaller shows. Later, extra switches were added because the original trackplan only provided a single entry/exit point for the yard sections. The extra switches allowed two entry/exit points for the yard and eased the passing of trains from the main layout to the rest of the track. This was discovered during the Operating Sessions as the bottleneck became glaringly apparent.

The modules were originally meant for show use only, but then Kurt decided to set them up in the master bedroom and connect them to the layout. Renamed the town of Addon, i.e. "Add-on", they form a switching yard plus an interchange track between the main layout and the Interhallway Connector. Almost every building in the industrial section is either modified or kit-bashed, and all are electrified. The industries are: Angus Brewery, Mountain Lumber Co, King's Ransom Manufacturing, and Fossil Fuels. The water tower doubles as a short-detector. Even the lumber crane has added lights.

Picture of building with ivy
Ivy on the old industry building. The building was kitbashed from an old DPM building kit that had been once been assembled and later broken into sections. The reglued sections and remodeled walls didn't always fit tight, so the ivy helped to hide the rough seams. Aileen's tacky glue and ground foam flocking create the ivy branches.
