In August 2011, the US east coast felt an earthquake.
This was even felt in Eagle Valley where the railroad suffered damage.
Besides cars being knocked off track, buildings were damaged by cars falling
off the display shelf. Overall the damage could have been much worse.
|

Several cars fell off the display shelf, crashing
to the track almost 2 feet below.
|

An engine sitting on the track was toppled during
the trembler in the Timberline Yard.
|

Several cars also fell off the track.
|

Handrails were broken off the oil refinery tower
as Annie came crashing down from the display shelf. Luckily, Annie wasn't
damaged.
|

The tank car fell off the track and another car
rolled backward into it. For whatever reason though, the other two cars
stayed in place. Had the box car fallen, it might have dived all the way
to the floor about 3 feet below..
|

Even the cars visiting Kitty's Place were toppled.

The earthquake was several miles away, in the small
town of Mineral, VA. It was felt from Maine to Georgia. Unlike the locals
in Mineral, we had very minor damage throughout the house. What was remarkable
was the way the family pulled together to check on each other, though
we were scattered in 3 cities in the area. Evidently everyone was most
concerned for the youngest member who was thought to be home alone. Fortunately,
he was fine and an older friend of the family had been at the house at
the time. I doubt anyone in the family will forget that day.
