Eagle Valley - Kurt's Third Layout
Prepping the Room

This layout was built in place to conform to the room. Yes, this is in the master bedroom. Kurt's wife, Michelle, is a very understanding soul - and the basement was occupied with other stuff. Originally it was designed to be a short sided U shape from the left side of the bed, behind the bed, and down the long wall to the right. Kurt later added a drop in bridge section across the master bathroom door that connected to his 2 modules on a shelf above his dresser.

Kurt knew he wanted to do the rocky northwestern part of the US, either Colorado or Oregon. He preferred the granite rock look, with tall trees. The original concept was for a small, unknown branch line that served some very specific camps and working areas. The company who owned and ran the branch line were buying up the old steam engines and rolling stock as the larger lines converted to diesal. The desired timeframe is 1955 - 1956, when both steam and diesal are present, along with wood sided box cars and some newer steel sided cars. Major influening railroads include John Allen's "Gorre and Daphetid" and Malcolm Furlow's "San Juan Central".

He later decided to connect his layout to Christopher's down the main hallway. Named the "Interhallway Connector", but commonly called the landmass, very narrow modules connect the layouts from the two rooms and form one large layout.

The room was painted in a sky blue. The window was boarded over and the board painted to match the walls.

All the walls were painted, even those that would not be part of the layout. If you want to know more about the armor, check out our other hobby, SOC.
Picture of clouds
The darker sky and clouds were added as well to provide a touch a realism. The start of the benchwork is in place.
Picture of clouds
The clouds only grace the walls above the layout.
