Kurt's Second Layout

This layout was originally built as a starter oval, of a size that would fit the available space and money. The layout used MRC Command 2000, an early DCC system. Yes, that is a slot car set running through the middle of the layout. What can I say, except that the kids were little. The kids and their friends had fun playing with the cars and dodging the trains. We did have a few collisions.

Later, Kurt added 2 wings, long offshoots for staging yards, to the side areas. However, only 2 years into the build, we moved houses and the layout simply didn't fit in the new house anywhere.

This layout had to be torn later as it never found a place in the new house. The cast mountains, tunnel portals, retaining walls, and buildings were all that could be salvaged from the layout to build the next one. The slot car track was salvaged as well and moved to its own table for the kids to play on.

The only "finished" scene was the lighthouse - to keep the wife happy since she likes lighthouses.
